Power in Purpose

The Lake Foundation serves to strengthen the mental health literacy of Northeastern Pennsylvania by providing public education, community advocacy, and promoting overall psychological well-being. In doing so, our mission is to help build a resilient community in which each person (children and adults)

has an equitable opportunity to live a mentally healthy life.

"The humanity we all share is more important

than the mental illnesses we may not."

-Elyn R. Saks

Come together.
Learn together.
Grow together.
Repeat.

Sharing Common Ground

There are more ways we are alike than just the common space we occupy. Get to know your neighbors, explore what connects you, and embrace your differences. Celebrating the diversity of our backgrounds, lifestyles, and values helps us to appreciate one another and our shared human experience, no matter how different we are!

What is positive psychology? - the scientific study of how individuals, communities, and organizations function optimally and thrive based on their strengths, virtues, and relationships

Together, let’s learn how to thrive, both individually and as a community!

In her book The How of Happiness, Sonja Lyubomirsky proposes that happiness is influenced by three main factors based on research:

  1. Genetic Set Point (50%) – A significant portion of happiness is determined by genetics, meaning individuals have a baseline level of happiness that they tend to return to over time.

  2. Intentional Activities (40%) – The most controllable aspect of happiness comes from intentional actions, such as practicing gratitude, engaging in meaningful activities, fostering positive relationships, and engaging in acts of kindness.

  3. Life Circumstances (10%) – Surprisingly, external factors such as income, appearance, and life events only have a small impact on long-term happiness.

Lyubomirsky’s research emphasizes that by focusing on intentional activities—especially those rooted in positive psychology—people can significantly increase and sustain their happiness over time.

Here are some past, present, and future aspirations The Lake Foundation is involved with:

  • Mental Health Awareness Fair - end “Mental Health Awareness” month and kickoff the summer with a block party at The Scranton Iron Furnaces, featuring workshops, local businesses and vendors, and renowned guest speakers

  • Meditate with Monks - practice mindfulness and being present, learn the many benefits of meditation and “slowing down,” and appreciate different cultures with trained masters

  • Homeless/Unhoused Simulation - fight stigma towards underserved populations that deserve care and fair treatment by stepping into their shoes

  • CREATE Positivity Series - let your creative juices flow with guided arts and crafts activities and engagements at discounted prices

  • Positive Pages - join a mental health book club and have fulfilling discussions about relevant monthly topics

Unmasking Mental Health

Join us on February 26, 2025, for a night of creativity and advocacy at Constantino's in Clarks Summit, PA. Unmasking Mental Health is an inspiring event that brings together community, fashion, and mental health awareness. As part of our ongoing mission to break the stigma surrounding mental health, this event will feature a fashion show contest, a catered meal, an open bar, and live entertainment by the band Picture Perfect.

The highlight of the evening will be the fashion show contest, where designers will take the runway with mental health-themed outfits that blend creativity with advocacy. The winning designer will receive a grand prize of $500. Designs will be voted on for the most inspiring and impactful design.

Early bird tickets are available for $100 per person or $800 for a full table of 10 guests. After the early bird period, general admission tickets will be $125, or $1,000 for a full table.

Through events like *Unmasking Mental Health*, we aim to empower individuals to unmask their stories, express their struggles, and inspire others on the path to wellness. Whether you're a designer, a mental health advocate, or simply someone who wants to support a meaningful cause, *Unmasking Mental Health* is an event you won't want to miss.

Let’s break the stigma, raise awareness, and unmask mental health together!
